The New Continuing Education and Certificate Program

By Jack York, Continuing Education and Certificate Program Coordinator

This summer, we were excited to launch the Continuing Education and Certificate Programs (CECP) at the UBC School of Social Work.

Our inaugural event, a one day training on Single Session Therapy, facilitated by Dr. Monica Sesma, was well attended, with registrations exceeding capacity.  Feedback regarding the session was also positive and provided valuable guidance for future sessions.

We are also currently finalizing recruitment of subject matter experts for the asynchronous Mental Health and Substance Use Certificate we are developing, using funds secured through the UBC Continuing Learning Advancement Fund (CLAF), with the aim of launching this program in Fall 2025.

We have many more sessions being planned for the first half of 2025, including sessions on the following topics / areas of practice:

  • An RCSW bridging course (including a DSM V course)
  • A settlement worker course
  • A neurodiversity course
  • Serious and terminal illness, grief and loss, palliative care, and MAiD course(s)
  • Working with sexual assault survivors / trauma-focused interventions courses
  • Anti-oppressive practice courses
  • Narrative Therapy courses
  • A CBT course series
  • A Systemic Relational Family Therapy course series
  • A Satir Family Therapy series, including Indigenous / Decolonizing models of applying the Satir approach

You can see our current offerings on our new Continuing Education website
