The journal is published 8 times a year, and articles appearing in it are picked up by all the major abstracting (e.g., PsycINFO) and indexing (e.g., the Web-of-Science) services. The journal’s 2017 one year impact factor was 1.92, the highest of all the true social work research journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports. It is received by over 8300 individual and institutional subscribers, and over 300,000PDF articles are downloaded from its website annually.
In this special issue, submissions related to the symposium theme of social justice and social care are welcome for:
- Empirical outcome studies on social work practice on addressing social justice and social care. In terms of research methodology, reports using either group or single system research designs are equally welcome, as are articles presenting quantitative or qualitative methods. A variety of genuinely relevant theoretical models or conceptual frameworks are welcome, as are outcome studies not clearly derived from any particular theoretical approach. Creative studies are encouraged, as are empirical evaluations of the outcomes of social policies, community or educational interventions.
- Systematic reviews or meta-analyses of the research-based foundations (or lack thereof) of various psychosocial interventions at individual, family, community or policy levels, or evidence-based reviews of what is known about effectively helping clients experiencing particular social justice and social care problems.
- Manuscripts involving qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods are welcome to be submitted, as are papers grounded in one or more theoretical orientations, or those that are not based on any formal theory.
- Explication and deliberation of theories or conceptual frameworks, and their relevancy of application in social work practice for addressing social justice and social care may also be considered
