A History of the UBC School of Social Work

Founded in 1929, the UBC School of Social Work has a long history as the oldest social work education program in BC. As the School approaches its 90th anniversary in 2019, it is interesting to look back and reflect on how social work at UBC got started.

The report, “Establishing Professional Social Work in Vancouver and at the University of British Columbia“, by Beverley Scott, offers such an overview of Vancouver’s social work history and the establishment of social work at UBC.

For your interest, the report is available here (PDF), uploaded with the permission of Beverley Scott. Beverley is a former UBC Social Work Librarian and we thank her for allowing us to highlight this report on the website.
