Highlights from the Indigenous Cultural Sharing Recess

For this year’s theme, we are highlighting Urban Indigenous Community Resources.

On November 20, 2020, the School was pleased to host Constable Rick Lavallee, Cree Nation, Indigenous Liaison Protocol Officer, Vancouver Police Department, and Constable Kirk Rattray, Tahltan Nation, Indigenous Liaison Officer, Metro Vancouver Transit Police.

Constable Lavallee and Constable Rattray discussed the importance of their roles in their respective police departments. They detailed their respective backgrounds, shared positive experiences of working with social workers, and explained how their jobs have been affected by COVID-19, including an increased focus on mental health and wellness. Their commitment to helping Indigenous peoples and developing and maintaining positive relationships was evident.

The event was a great way for students, staff, and faculty to connect with members of the greater community who could be called upon for advocacy and information.
