Sexual and Gender Diversity in Social Work: A Critical Conversation

DATE
Friday February 26, 2021
TIME
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, and other sexual and gender minorities (LGBTQ2S+) experience numerous social and health inequities rooted in intersecting systems of oppression. Social workers require a critical understanding of this context in order to practice equitably and ethically with these populations, especially in the era of COVID-19, where pre-existing social injustices have been exacerbated by the pandemic.

Join us online for a critical conversation on sexual and gender diversity in social work, if you are looking to develop a better understanding of key terms and concepts in this area, to gain insight on the sociopolitical context of LGBTQ2S+ populations in Canada, and to explore strategies for practicing social work with these communities.

Led by Avery Wrenne (BSW student), Antoine Coulombe and Hannah Kia (faculty members) and organized by Jay Groat (BSW student).

There will be time to engage in case studies as well as time for questions and discussion. We hope to see you there. Allies are welcome and encouraged to join.
