Students, Staff, and Faculty of the UBC School of Social Work are invited to a unique and enlightening historical tour of Hogan’s Alley, led by the esteemed Lama Mugabo. This tour offers a rare opportunity to delve into the vibrant history of Vancouver’s Black community and understand the history and significant social and cultural contributions they have made.
Tour Details:

- Time: Start at 2:30 PM
- Meeting Point: SW corner of Union and Main, near the viaduct, close to the Anthony Joseph Mural
- Duration: Approximately 2 hours
- Weather: Please remember to bring suitable clothing as the tour will be outdoors
- Cost: This event is free; it is funded by the UBC Centre for Community and Engaged Learning.
About Hogan’s Alley: Hogan’s Alley was once the heart of Vancouver’s Black community, bustling with businesses, cultural hubs, and residences. Despite its demolition in the 1970s, the legacy 
of Hogan’s Alley lives on through the stories and memories of those who lived there. Lama Mugabo, a passionate community leader, will guide us through the alleys and landmarks, sharing anecdotes and historical insights that bring this important chapter of our city’s history to life.

This tour will provide invaluable insights into the systemic challenges Black communities face in Vancouver, both past and present.
