UBC School of Social Work Artwork Contest 2021

UBC students are invited to participate in a contest that not only beautifies the Jack Bell Building but also reflects our shared commitment to social justice and an ethic of care.

Introducing an artwork contest where you can express in a creative way what equity and social justice mean to you.

All eligible contest entries will be showcased in a public forum as well as judged by committee. The winning submissions will have their work reproduced on vinyl, displayed on the five pillars that greet you as you enter the Jack Bell Building. Winner will also receive an ipad and the opportunity to knit the School together in images that reflect our shared values.

While we welcome all forms of visual art in the form of paintings, photography, graffiti, street art, digital art, comics and collages, if the artwork is not created digitally it must be properly photographed in high resolution in order for it to be reproduced onto vinyl.

Artwork must be original and royalty-free.

Please include brief description of the artwork and its intended message.

More than one submission is allowed per student or group.

Depending on the number of winning submissions, artwork may be displayed over multiple pillars. It may be necessary to crop some of the artwork and/or zoom in to a specific part of the artwork in order to fit the vinyl specifications. We recommend that submissions take into account the vertical and narrow columns. Columns are 30" x 91" or 76.5cm x 231cm. Please note the vinyl will only appear on the front-facing portion of the column (it will not wrap around).

Once submitted, the School has the right to reproduce the artwork both physically and online on the website and in social media.
