Dr. Karun Karki recently published a new book on the deskilling of immigrant professionals in Canada, exploring how skilled, racialized immigrants are often unable to fully use their education and professional experience due to systemic barriers such as racism, sexism, and restrictive credential recognition processes.
“I wrote this book to shed light on the often-overlooked challenges skilled, racialized immigrants face in Canada when their qualifications and experience are not fully recognized,” Dr. Karki said. “Through my research, I saw how systemic barriers disproportionately affect racialized immigrants and immigrant women, limiting their opportunities and sense of belonging.”
