Change to Land Acknowledgement announced by Faculty of Arts

At the recent Equity, Diversity and Inclusion meeting of the Faculty of Arts (FOA), it was noted that the FOA has posted a renewed commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. In this statement, the acknowledgement of territory has been changed to the traditional, ancestral, and occupied territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking Musqueam peoples. This new wording was recommended by the Faculty of Arts Indigenous Advisory Committee.

We are encouraged to use it, though at this point the university level acknowledgement remains unchanged. The entire statement can be found here:

The School of Social Work’s Statement of Accountability and Commitment has therefore been revised to reflect this change, as will all School documents that contain the Land Acknowledgment moving forward.
