We are delighted to announce that Antoine Coulombe has been promoted to Associate Professor of Teaching with Tenure at UBC’s School of Social Work on October 6.
Since joining the School in 2019, Antoine has brought over twenty years of experience across healthcare, education, and community organizations. He teaches with a focus on inclusive, experiential learning, Universal Design for Learning, and community-engaged pedagogy. In 2023, he was recognized as a UDL Fellow for introducing strategies that enhance student autonomy and reduce classroom barriers.
As BSW Program Chair, Antoine provides strategic leadership in curriculum development, student support, and program renewal, collaborating with faculty and staff to uphold the School’s commitments to equity, accessibility, and excellence.
Nationally, Antoine is a leading voice in queering social work education, chairing the Queer Caucus at CASWE-ACFTS and leading an SSHRC-funded project on 2S/LGBTQ+ students’ experiences in Canadian social work programs. He also champions initiatives supporting francophone communities in minority contexts, making him only the second tenured francophone in the long history of the School of Social Work.
Beyond teaching and leadership, Antoine mentors colleagues and fosters a vibrant learning community at UBC.
