Welcome to UBC School of Social Work, the third oldest social work education program in Canada. Throughout the years, our School has always treasured the great tradition of a community of learners.
We engage with different service and professional communities, both locally and internationally, to provide high quality professional education to our students and to generate state-of-the-art knowledge through collaborative research and scholarship. Together with our students and community partners, we place social justice and ethic of care at the forefront of our teaching and research.
Recently, while our School celebrated the significant contributions of several faculty members who have just left us for retirement or other opportunities, we are excited to be preparing for a few new members to join us soon. This intergenerational transition signals tremendous opportunity for our school to further excel in professional education, research and scholarship. We also anticipate a renewed and stronger engagement with our community partners to collaboratively equip our students with critical and transformative knowledge and skills of social work practice.
To quote an ancient Chinese saying: “As Heaven’s movement is ever vigorous, so must we strive ceaselessly”. Change drives transformation. Our long and distinguished record in social work education, research and scholarship has shown that we, UBC School of Social Work, have ceaselessly and successfully transformed and excelled ourselves. We welcome all interested students to be part of this dynamic community of learners and to strive for great success in their professional careers through our rigorously designed BSW, MSW and PhD programs.
